Jake Jenkins, Songwriter
Jake Jenkins is the main songwriter for Miss Leslie and Her Juke-Jointers. Jake toured for 10 years with Rebel Records’ Karl Shiflett and the Big Country Show and received critical acclaim for both his banjo playing and songwriting. He hails from Dickens, TX, which is just outside of Lubbock.

Jake grew up in Rockdale, TX listening to the music of Hank Williams and Jimmy Rodgers. He taught himself to play banjo as a kid and refined his craft while with KSBC. He considers Scruggs and Reno to be his major banjo influences.

He wrote 8 of the 12 songs on KSBC’s last release, “Worries on My Mind”. One of the tunes, “How Wrong a Man Can Be” featured Grammy winner Jim Lauderdale singing lead. In the liner notes of that album, Grand Ole Opry Star Sonny Osborne states Jake is "one of the most underrated, overlooked banjo
players I've ever heard." This same album reached #18 on the Americana Music Charts.

Here’s what critics say about Jake’s songwriting:

Review, Bluegrass Works (www.bluegrassworks.com) – Jerome Clark, 6/1/2004
“Worries on My Mind, including the astonishingly talented Jake Jenkins, banjoist and songwriter extraordinary. . . . Next time around, let's have more Jenkins tunes”

Review, No Depression Magazine – Jon Weisberger, January-February 2004
“the material. . . is excellent, and when Jim Lauderdale turns in a guest vocal on Jenkins’ ‘How Wrong a Man Can Be’, the continued artistic viability of the honky-tonk bluegrass sound is proven beyond any doubt.”
